The Overview layout is a landing page and navigation hub for your Interface. It gives users a single, organized starting point that highlights the most important pages, provides context about the Interface, and offers quick links to other resources — all without displaying raw database records.
Think of the Overview page as the home page of your Interface. Users land here first, orient themselves, and navigate to the specific pages and workflows they need.
You have a multi-page Interface and want users to start with a clear navigation hub.
You need to communicate what an Interface is for before users dive into data.
You want to link to external resources (documentation, Slack channels, external URLs) alongside your Interface pages.
You are building a team workspace or client portal where orientation matters.

In the Interface editor, click + Add Page in the left panel.
From the Layout Picker, select Overview and click Finish.
The Overview page will appear in the left panel and open on the canvas.
💡 Tip Overview pages do not require a source Stack — they are navigation pages, not data pages. |
The Overview canvas has two main areas: the Main Area (center) and the optional Sidebar (right side).
Click on the canvas background (not on a specific element) to open general page settings in the right panel:
Add a full-width banner image at the top of the Overview page to give it a visual identity. Recommended dimensions: 1800px × 512px minimum. The display area is 256px tall.
Click Add a cover image on the canvas to upload.
Only one cover image per page. Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, WebP.
To remove, click the X in the top-left corner of the image on the canvas.
Add a smaller logo or icon below the cover image. Logos are resized to fit within 200px × 64px and are not cropped.
Click Add a logo on the canvas to upload.
One logo per page.
The page title defaults to "Overview" — click it to rename it. This title appears in the page nav on the left and at the top of the canvas.
Add a description below the title to explain the purpose of the Interface or provide instructions for new users. Formatted text is supported (bold, italic, bullet lists).
Toggle Show sidebar to reveal a column on the right side of the Overview canvas. The sidebar is separate from the main content area and is useful for external links, contact information, or reference notes.
In the main area, you can add free-form text sections to introduce the Interface, explain workflows, or provide instructions.
Hover on the canvas to reveal a + Add text button.
Click to place a text block. Type your content — full rich text formatting is supported.
Text blocks can be reordered by dragging.
Bookmarks are the primary feature of the Overview layout. They are highlighted navigation tiles that link directly to other pages within the same Interface.
Each Bookmark shows:
The page title (inherited from the linked page — cannot be changed here)
A description (required — add one to give users context for each page)
An icon inherited from the linked page
Bookmarks are organized into groups. Click + Add bookmark group to create a group. Each group has:
Title — e.g., "Quick Actions", "Reports", "Data Entry"
Description — Optional context for the group
Up to 8 bookmarks per group
Inside a Bookmark Group, click + Add bookmark.
Select the Interface page you want to link to from the dropdown.
Add a required description (this is what helps users understand what they'll find on that page).
Toggle Open in a new tab if you want the linked page to open in a new browser tab.
📝 Note Bookmarks only appear to users who have access to the linked page. If an entire bookmark group is inaccessible to a user (e.g., they don't have permission to view any of those pages), the group is automatically hidden for them. |
When the sidebar is enabled, you can add groups of external links — URLs to resources outside of Stackby, like Notion docs, Slack channels, company wikis, or project management tools.
Title — The header label for the sidebar section.
Description — Optional context for the links below.
Up to 8 links per sidebar group.
Title — Friendly display name for the link.
URL — The full destination URL (must include https://).
Open in a new tab — Recommended for external links.
A maximum of 8 bookmarks per bookmark group.
A maximum of 8 links per sidebar group.
Overview pages cannot be publicly shared via a public link.
You cannot embed live data visualizations directly in the Overview canvas (use the Dashboard layout for that). Overview is for navigation and orientation only.
Standalone Form pages cannot be rendered inside an Overview page — link to the form via a Bookmark instead.
At this time, you cannot add standalone image blocks to the Overview canvas body. You can add a cover image at the top of the page and a logo. If you need to display images within the body content, consider using a Dashboard layout with a Gallery visualization instead, or link to an external image resource in the sidebar.
Yes! Overview pages can be publicly shared. If you're building a Portal and want a home page, use a Dashboard page styled as a landing page, or use the Portal's built-in custom onboarding and login pages to create an entry experience.
Bookmarks only appear to users who have access to the linked page. If a user doesn't have permission to view a bookmarked page, that bookmark is automatically hidden from them. Check the sharing and permission settings on both the Interface and individual pages.
